about

I hate being one of those artists who just drops things without planning, but tomorrow would've been my mother's 72nd birthday. I had to do something special for her. City/Poly 2 is also happening this weekend, and one of my friends from high school, a young woman named Maranda, lost her life to cancer back in 2011 (Excuse my language, but fuck cancer, as it also played a part in my mother's death and countless other people). It was, in some ways, a perfect storm for this track to come out tomorrow.

True gave me a soulful hook for me to rap three verses about some beautiful souls.

The first verse is dedicated to my aunt Delores (who was my stepdad's sister), the second verse is dedicated to Maranda and the final verse is (of course) dedicated to my mom, with a twist. More so, the third verse details some of her first interactions with True and how she suggested that I reconnect with him after high school and college (mainly because she knew he was a special type of brother and since we both did music, it made sense to her). Without those conversations, DAR Elite may've been a wholly different entity and I may've not had True to go through the trenches of post-college life with.

This one is incredibly special to me.
