3/17/19 is 11 days before the fourth anniversary of Mama Young's death.

I figure that 3/17 is as good of a time as any to drop this project, which serves as my eleventh as Speed on the Beat. I’ve always wanted to do a compilation of my work, and figured that my last three albums needed a compilation due to them being connected as deeply as they are.

Why "Family and Friends": My last three projects dealt heavily in my family life, the way I became a better father and provider, and how my mother and father helped shape me as a human being--for better and for worse--and how my stepfather shaped how I am as a provider as well.

These were also the first projects where I incorporated the entire Team DAR collective on verses. It was something I'd played around with for a while, but I never did until 2017. Up until then, I never really found the right track to highlight my DAR bros on. When "DAR Back" became a thing, we were all in different places, but converged onto the track just as hungry as before--even if we weren't all in the same place recording.
